I would like to introduce all my friends to Gracey, a nine year old senior kitty that just found a wonderful new home!
You may remember when Mom has gone away, Katie and I have stayed with Mom’s cousin Laura. Laura’s daughter, Kira who just turned twelve, loves pets and has wanted her own pet for quite some time now. Last month her dream came true when she adopted this beautiful, nine year old, senior cat Gracey!
Last weekend I stopped by to meet Gracey and interview her about her life as a senior kitty that just found a new home. The meeting/interview did not exactly go as planned. Evidently she thought I was some kind of serial cat murderer as she wanted nothing to do with me and actually left the room and went into hiding. While the search party tried to find her I took a cat nap.
Gracey was eventually found and agreed to do the interview, but wanted to be kept a safe distance away from me. She insisted on sitting in an American Girl Doll tent for security purposes. You can see the fear in her eyes, poor kitty. Sometimes cats are just strange, but I really wanted to hear her story, so I put up with her cat behavior. Something tells me there will be no more staying here when Mom goes out of town! Here is my interview:
Emma: How old are you and do you know your birthday?
Gracey: I am nine years old and my birthday is July 7, 2005.
Emma: Has Gracey always been your name?
Gracey: Yes, but now I have a new middle name, I am Gracey Elisabeth.
Emma: Who is your new human?
Gracey: My new human is Kira, she just turned twelve.
Emma: How did your new human find out about you?
Gracey: Kira found out about on the MN humane society website. She was searching for a cat online that met her criteria.
Emma: What Humane Society were you at? You know my kitties came from the Golden Valley Humane Society.
Gracey: I was staying with nice people in St.Paul.
Emma: How long were you at the Humane Society?
Gracey: I was there for six days but met Kira on the fifth day.
Emma: What was your new human looking for in a cat?
Gracey: A lovable family cat that is calm and sweet.
Emma: Was it love at first sight with your new owner?
Gracey: At first I was a little shy but soon I got to know her and after 10 minutes I sat on her lap. Kira loved me right away.
Emma: I hear you were in a program called “courageous cat”, what is that?
Gracey: It’s called the courageous kitty program. It is for cats that are shy, due to the stress of the shelter environment. It helped me become more brave for my new home!
Emma: Are you pretty happy with your new home?
Gracey: Yes. I think is nice and calm, a perfect home for me.
Emma: What is your favorite thing to do besides sleeping?
Gracey: I love to snuggle with my family members and look out the windows around the house.
Emma: Are there any other pets in your new home?
Gracey: Yes, there is one other pet, a handsome blue beta fish named Zingo.
Emma: Is there anything else you would like to tell me about your new life?
Gracey: It is a fun adventure for a new page in my life. I am happy and very lucky that my family chose a mature cat like myself instead of adorable kittens.
Emma: Well, thank you so much for answering my questions. Hope you overcome your fear of dogs some day, we really aren’t that bad. You could call my cats and ask them about me if you would like. Gracey did go back into hiding for a day and a half after I left, but as of yesterday, she is a changed cat, racing around the house appearing to have no more fears whatsoever. I’m glad she is feeling so happy!
